Result codes after exams: what they mean and what to do next
Last checked 11 October 2026. NWU has no published code list. Its General Academic Rules 2024 describe the outcomes in words. NWU does not use the word "exclusion": its term is termination of studies.
| Outcome | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Exam admission | A participation mark of at least 40%. | Speak to your lecturer if you are refused. |
| Pass / distinction | Pass at 50% with a 40% exam sub-minimum. Distinction at 75%. | Nothing. |
| Two exam opportunities | You get two consecutive exam opportunities. | Prepare for the second if you did not pass the first. |
| Final additional (concession) assessment | A last extra assessment, with the mark capped at 50%. | Follow the notice you receive. |
| Progression | Full-time contact students need 50%, 60% and 66% of credits at the thresholds in the rules. | Check the rules at the end of each year. |
| Written warning, then termination of studies | If you do not meet progression requirements. | Request reconsideration within 10 days. An undergraduate may apply for readmission at most twice. |
| Remark or script view | After the first opportunity (5 working days) and the second (2 working days). | Apply within the window. |
Faculty yearbooks can be stricter, and the exact wording on the student portal was not available, so we have not listed portal codes.
