UCT result codes explained: what RENN means

RENN means you are academically not eligible to continue. You can still be readmitted if the Faculty Examinations Committee (FEC) grants a concession, and you can appeal to the Readmission Appeals Committee (RAC).

Result codes after exams: what they mean and what to do next

Good standing (you can carry on)

Code Meaning What to do next
CONT Academically eligible to continue Register as normal.
FECC Concession (FEC) to continue The Faculty Examinations Committee let you continue although you did not meet the requirements. Follow any conditions it set.
FECF Concession (FEC) to change programme within the faculty Register in the programme you were moved to.
FECR Progression requirements not met but allowed to continue Check the conditions with your faculty office.
RACC Concession (RAC) to continue in the same faculty and programme Your appeal succeeded. Follow the RAC's conditions.
RACF Concession (RAC) to change programme within the faculty Register in the new programme.
RACB Concession (RAC) to continue after semester 1 probation Meet the probation conditions in semester 1.
RACL / RACO Concession (RAC) to return after leave of absence / after a prescribed break Register for the term you were approved to return.
RACT Concession (RAC) to transfer from another faculty Register in your new faculty.
QUAL Qualifies for the award of the degree or diploma Check the graduation process.

Pending (a decision is still to come)

Code Meaning What to do next
SUPP Status pending: continue if the supplementary or deferred exams are passed Write the exams. The code is used only where that outcome decides whether you continue, so also lodge a pre-emptive appeal by your faculty's deadline in case you fail.
QUAS Qualification depends on supplementary or deferred exam results Write the exams; your result decides if you graduate.
FECP Status pending a Faculty Examinations Committee (FEC) decision Wait for the FEC outcome and check your student email.
RACP Status pending a Readmission Appeals Committee (RAC) decision Wait for the RAC outcome and check your student email.
DSOS Faculty office to update academic status A holding code until your final standing is entered. Contact your faculty office if it does not change.
UXAM Under examination Wait for the result.
POTA / POTD / POTJ Potential qualifier (autumn, December or July graduation) Complete what is outstanding.
INQF Graduation depends on fee clearance Clear your fees with Student Fees.
LEAV / RLOA Leave of absence / return from leave of absence Speak to your faculty office about re-registering.
DJPP / DJP* Status pending a misconduct hearing This is a disciplinary matter, not an academic one. Follow the notice you were sent.

Not eligible to continue

Code Meaning What to do next
RENN Academically not eligible to continue You can still be readmitted if the FEC grants a concession, and you can appeal to the Readmission Appeals Committee (RAC). Find your faculty's deadline and appeal form on UCT's readmissions page.
FAIL Failed the qualification Speak to your faculty office about options, including appealing.
EXPL / RUST Expelled / rusticated for misconduct Disciplinary outcome. Ask your faculty office and the Student Affairs office about review rights.
