Societies and sport

NWU offers sports teams, cultural clubs, academic societies, debate and faith-based groups on all three campuses, plus recreational leagues, gyms and inter-campus events. First-years take part in sport fairs during orientation, and societies recruit from stalls on campus. Each campus has its own sport page.

• Council of Societies (COS): handles society affiliation and yearly re-affiliation (Potchefstroom). Academic Student Associations sit under the Academic Council. Society categories are religious, political, cultural, academic and transformational.
• Student structures (2026 orientation guide): the SRC, a Student Campus Council (SCC) of 15 on each campus, Students' Academic Chapters per faculty and Student Society Chapters that are established each year. The SRC and SCC include a Sport Officer and a Societies Liaison.
• We did not find a published society count, society fees or sport-club sign-up steps. Ask your campus Student Life office.
