Result codes after exams: what they mean and what to do next

Last checked . TUT has no published list of symbols. The Chapter 4 Examination Rules 2024 and the Students' Rules and Regulations define the outcomes in words.

Outcome What it means What to do next
Exam admission A predicate mark of at least 40%. Speak to your lecturer if you are refused.
Pass 50% with a 40% sub-minimum. Nothing.
Supplementary exam A final mark of 45 to 49%, or 50% or more with a failed sub-minimum. It is automatic (you cannot apply), listed on tut.ac.za, the pass mark is 50% and you get one attempt. Write it on the date listed. If you fail it you must re-register for the module.
Special examination I and II For a missed exam with a valid reason. Apply within 3 working days.
Exit examination Final assessment for certain qualifications. Follow your faculty's notice.
Academic probation You passed 30% to under 50% of your credits (tables differ by qualification length). Meet the conditions set for you.
Exclusion You may not continue, or may not continue in that qualification. Appeal to the departmental committee (DAEAC). The faculty committee (FAEAC) decision is final. Readmission to the same qualification is only after one year.
