Academic support

Researched by the VarsityStart team from official university sources. Last checked 10 October 2026. How we check

Writing Centre (Upper Campus, fifth floor Steve Biko Building, just above the food court) and a Writing Lab on the Health Sciences campus. Book online or email writingcentre@uct.ac.za. They help with referencing and academic conventions but do not edit your work.
First-Year Experience: an early warning system based on first class test results and an academic mentor who is a senior student.
Extended Degree Programmes give extra academic and social support in some faculties; ask your faculty's Education Development Unit.
Supplementary exams are set by your faculty handbook and the rules differ between faculties. Read the one for your faculty, for example the Science handbook or the Engineering and the Built Environment handbook.
