Disability concessions
Apply through the Disability Rights Unit (DRU, under Student Counselling and Development). Register online, then complete both the DRU Registration form and the Concession Application form. Temporary needs use a separate Temporary Concession form. The documents are listed in NWU's Concession Procedure Document (revised January 2026), and only diagnoses from an HPCSA-registered practitioner are considered.
- Closing dates: the 2026 dates were 23 February and 20 July, and late applications are not accepted. We did not find 2027 dates, so check with the DRU.
- What can be granted: extra writing time, a reader or writer, spelling concessions, enlarged papers or font, computer access, breaks, special equipment and ergonomic adjustments. Extra time has been capped at 15 minutes per hour except for severe disabilities (confirm in the procedure document).
