Getting around

Researched by the VarsityStart team from official university sources. Last checked 10 October 2026. How we check

We found no university-wide NWU shuttle service. What we did find:

Vanderbijlpark: students in off-campus residences are bused to campus daily. A 2024 NWU tender asked for a contractor to carry students daily between Faranani Residence and the campus.
Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark exam periods: NWU has run extra exam-period buses in the evenings with set pick-up points (June 2023 timetable). Ask your campus whether the same service runs this year.
Off campus: transport from accredited residences is arranged by the accommodation owner, not the university, so ask your landlord what is included.
Potchefstroom ride-hailing: Uber announced a launch in Potchefstroom, but an NWU page from 2019 said it did not operate there. Check the app.
Mahikeng: we found no student transport information. Ask Student Counselling and Development or your residence.
Ride-hailing: Uber offers a trip PIN, RideCheck, trusted contacts and an emergency button. Bolt offers a pick-up code, in-app audio recording and an SOS button linked to armed response. We found no student discounts for either.
