Societies and sport

During orientation there is an SRC societies and sports session on the Steve Biko lawns. The SRC Societies Councillor also organises a Societies Evening, normally about two weeks into the first term.

• Societies: Rhodes lists more than 80, covering academic, political, religious, international and cultural groups, including debating, chemistry, astronomy and photography. An older SRC page says every society charges an annual membership fee; amounts are not published.
• Sport: the sport page lists 28 clubs: Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Canoe, Chess, Cricket, Dance Sport, First Aid, Fly Fishing, Golf, Hockey, Karate, MMA, Mountain, Netball, Pool, Rifle, Rowing, Rugby, Sailing, Soccer, Squash, Surfing, Tae Kwon Do, Tennis, Underwater, Volleyball and Water Polo. Sports are adapted for people who have never played. Sports Administration: 046 603 8366.
• Access to most sports facilities is free with your student card.
