Getting around
SU's Transport Services runs shuttles for students and staff. Show your student card.
- Day shuttle: weekdays 07:30 to 17:00 on campus, linking the peripheral parking areas with central campus. It does not run on weekends, public holidays, in recess or during the A3 exam.
- Evening shuttle: hourly from 18:00, every day, from the east side of the Neelsie Student Centre to private housing. Booking is essential through the booking link on the transport page. It runs from the start of classes until the last weekday of the A3 exam. SU pages disagree on the end time and range (06:00 and 6 km on one, 02:00 and 9 km on another), so check the SU safety page for current hours. The page lists no extra cost for students and staff registered for parking.
- Tygerberg: a booked evening shuttle runs between the Tygerberg Student Centre, Tyger Valley Centre (Entrance 9), Parow Centre (Entrance 4) and private housing within 6 km. Not on Sundays.
- Fares: a R9 evening fare was announced in 2019 and suspended after talks with the SRC. We found no current fare, so check when you book.
- Walk-with service from Campus Security: 021 808 2333 or WhatsApp 082 808 2333.
- Transport Services office: 48 Banghoek Road, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30.
- Ride-hailing: Uber offers a trip PIN, RideCheck, trusted contacts and an emergency button. Bolt offers a pick-up code, in-app audio recording and an SOS button linked to armed response. We found no student discounts for either.
