Getting around
The UCT Shuttle (formerly the Jammie Shuttle) is free for students and staff with a valid UCT card. Be at your stop 5 to 10 minutes before departure and show your card.
- Routes: Claremont, Bremner and Kramer, Sandown, Tugwell, Forest Hill via Mowbray, Carinus, Carinus-Rochester, Liesbeek via Mowbray, Hiddingh Hall, Obz Square via Health Sciences and Tugwell, Great Westerford, and residence loops.
- After 20:00 on weekdays and all weekend, shuttles depart from the Upper Campus North Stop.
- Weekday evenings (18:55 to 23:35), the Claremont service boards and drops at Roscommon House.
- Timetables change without notice. The ones we saw were valid until 25 October 2026, so check the UCT Shuttle page and the UCT Mobile app. UCT main line: 021 650 9111.
- MyCiTi buses use the myconnect card (R40, replacement R30) with distance-based fares. The February 2026 guide shows no student fare.
- Ride-hailing: Uber offers a trip PIN, RideCheck, trusted contacts and an emergency button. Bolt offers a pick-up code, in-app audio recording and an SOS button linked to armed response. We found no student discounts for either.
