Getting around
The inter-campus bus links the four campuses for registered students and staff, who must show a valid UJ card. The latest timetable we could find is the 2025 circular (from 10 February 2025). Stops are Kingsway visitors parking opposite the main gate, Bunting Road on campus, and the normal stops at Doornfontein and Soweto, with a Saturday schedule on set dates only. Timetables change each year, so ask for the current one.

- Electric buses: UJ had 5 electric buses in May 2025 and has planned more.
- Gautrain: students under 25 at Gauteng institutions have had a 25% discount on the Student 10 and 44 trip cards (verified through Varsity Vibe). Since May 2025 the KlevaMova product gives 50% off train fares to students under 25 and to households earning R350,000 or less (the OR Tambo route is excluded). A 2026 Gautrain release describes the discount in terms of under-40s in the R350,000 bracket, so confirm the current rules and document list on 0800 428 87246.
- Ride-hailing: Uber offers a trip PIN, RideCheck, trusted contacts and an emergency button. Bolt offers a pick-up code, in-app audio recording and an SOS button linked to armed response. We found no student discounts for either.
