Academic support

Researched by the VarsityStart team from official university sources. Last checked 10 October 2026. How we check

Every faculty has a Faculty Student Advisor.
Economic and Management Sciences has Academic Success Coaches and an early-warning system called Phafoga for first-years. The coaches run consultations and workshops on time management, study methods, test and exam preparation and stress.
Supplementary exams are set by each faculty, so read the rules for your own faculty in the yearbook (for example Law and EBIT). The supplementary sittings are on the calendar in Key dates.
The Unit for Academic Literacy and faculty writing centres give one-on-one writing help.
First-years in Health Sciences, EMS and NAS write the Test of Academic Literacy Levels (TALL).
