The Centre for Student Counselling and Development offers food assistance through its Food Security Programme, accessed after a social worker's assessment. The Tygerberg campus runs a Pantry Project with donation bins, and the Maties Coffee Hub sells R45 meal kits.

Reported by (unofficial): a blog from SU's social justice programme says nearly 5,000 SU students battled hunger in 2024 while waiting for NSFAS allowances.
