What you pay and when
For South African students the first instalment is due by 28 February (2026 pattern; 2027 amounts were not published): 20% of study fees plus, where applicable, a first instalment on residence fees. SU's amount-payable page gives the residence instalment as R16,400, so check it for 2027. A Bellville Park schedule gives 23 February.
- The R5,100 is not that instalment. It is the residence acceptance fee, the compulsory first instalment of accommodation fees paid when you accept a place. It is refundable only under set conditions.
- Bursary or loan holders are exempted from the first instalment if you submit written proof on the funder's letterhead (with the payment date and the donor's contact email) to Student Fees, preferably before registration. If the bursary is less than the first instalment, you pay the difference by registration. Loan proof goes to studentaccounts@sun.ac.za.
- Payment options (2026 yearbook): eight instalments (20% on 28 February, 31 March, 30 April and 31 May, then 5% on 30 June, 31 July, 31 August and 30 September), or a debit order in ten equal instalments from 2 March (apply before 14 February).
- We did not find a statement that NSFAS students are exempt from the first instalment, so ask Student Fees.
- Amounts in arrears must be paid before you can register for the next year.
