Food support
Wits has a Food Programme for students who are food insecure, and your Faculty Student Advisor can refer you for help with food, finances, accommodation and health. You can also ask through Ask Wits (wits.ac.za/askwits).
- Wits Food Bank: run by Wits Citizenship and Community Outreach (WCCO), it hands out non-perishable parcels each Tuesday, and three food gardens (two on West Campus, one on East Campus) supply fresh produce.
- Scale (2022): parcels went to more than 5,000 students a year, and the Masidleni project served about 1,000 hot meals a day.
- How to apply: we did not find a current application page, so ask your Faculty Student Advisor.
- Student-run, unofficial: Food For Mzansi (July 2026) reported the Sizanani Legacy Project, which offers weekend hot meals and food parcels on donations.
