Residences
First-year residence applications for 2027 ran from 1 April to 30 September 2026 and are now closed; Wits says late applications won't be accepted. Wits reserves 50% of undergraduate beds for first-years, and meeting the requirements doesn't guarantee a place. If you applied and are waitlisted, placements can continue during registration. If you missed the date, ask the Central Accommodation Office (Solomon Mahlangu House, ground floor, Room SH045) what's possible.

If you've failed to meet the minimum requirements
Students who don't meet the minimum requirements of study get a result code (MRNM or MRNL) and cannot re-register for the same qualification without permission from the Wits Readmissions Committee (WRC). You are entitled to appeal to the WRC by application.
A 2026 court case describes the process in practice: a first WRC decision, then an in-person appeal hearing before a second committee. Ask your faculty office for the current form and deadline.

Counselling and crisis support (CCDU)
The Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU) offers walk-in counselling. An intake therapist sees you briefly and points you to the right support, and you may wait depending on how many students are ahead of you.
