Academic support

Researched by the VarsityStart team from official university sources. Last checked 10 October 2026. How we check

Writing Lab (Language Centre): free, repeat 50-minute sessions in English or Afrikaans, online or at 44 Banghoek Road. Book through My.SUN. There is also a Reading Lab.
Mentors: every first-year is assigned a mentor from their residence or Commuter Student Community.
Tutoring runs per faculty, and the CSCD's academic counselling helps with time management and study strategies.
Exam words: the almanac lists A2 and A3 assessment periods in June and in November to December. What A3 means for your modules depends on your faculty, so check your faculty's assessment rules.
